Commissioned by Abundance London, We helped to regenerate an area beneath Turnham Green railway bridge with vibrant vitreous enamel murals. This project aimed to beautify and document the area’s history through a series of cartographic images.
Project Details
Abundance London, known for their community-driven urban initiatives, sought to transform a neglected space beneath Turnham Green railway bridge. The project involved creating two 27-meter-long mural artworks, depicting cartographic images from 1593 to the present day, including historical diagrams and wartime damage.
Links Signs won the tender to produce and install these murals using vitreous enamel, a material chosen for its durability and weather resistance. The project required 49 individual panels, each nearly 3 meters tall, with screen printing that involved up to 15 colours per panel. The panels were mounted on a steel framework and precisely positioned to navigate existing obstacles like drainage pipes.
Several panels featured artwork by renowned artists Sir Peter Blake and William Hogarth, applied as full-colour transfers and sealed during the enamelling process. This project is part of the broader Chiswick Timeline initiative, supported by a commemorative book and additional materials.
